Manchester has a rich heritage with a canal system dating back to the 18th century. It is linked to the sea by the Manchester Ship Canal. A survey of dogs tagged in the area showed that the Staffordshire Bull Terrier is the most popular dog, followed by the Jack Russell Terrier, Labrador Retriever, Yorkshire Terrier and Shih Tzu. The neighbouring areas of Salford, Wigan, Bolton, Oldham and Warrington showed a similar pattern with Border Collies making a strong showing. Manchester is only a short distance from our showroom and warehouse in Adlington (an area where Labrador Retrievers are perhaps the most popular).
Manchester has so many places to walk your dog that you will be surprised. Apart from canalside walks, there are city parks which include:- Heaton Park - check out the Hazlitt Wood Walk, Debdale Park which recently was awarded the Green Flag Community Award, and Chorlton Water Park which has a lake surrounded by woodlands and grasslands. Moving into Greater Manchester, the choice is as stunning as the scenery. There is the Trans Pennine Trail which snakes along the River Mersey - although the entire length of 213 miles may be a bit too long for most! A walk to the Peel monument above Ramsbottom is rewarding although some consider it an achievement to reach the top. Once there, the views allow you to take in the natural beauty of the North West. The Rochdale Canal runs all the way from Castlefields to Sowerby in Yorkshire, and Hartshead Pike (pictured) in Ashton Under Lyne is definitely worth a visit. This area of the North West has much to offer to dog lovers. It is important that you find the correct breed to suit your lifestyle and walking needs, and then find the correct size of crate, cage or playpen.
