The Akita is a large powerful dog of impressive appearance. Dignified, courageous and aloof, he tends to dominate other dogs. Can be protective, so with his powerful build he is not suitable for inexperienced owners. The Akita dog came from the continent before it was separated by the Sea of Japan, while the Oriental type dog such as the Shiba dog is believed to have come from China and Korea, with settlers from Asia, to the Hiroshima area. The outer coat is coarse, straight, and stands off the body. The undercoat is soft and dense. The coat is more profuse at the withers and on the tail. Grooming is moderate and necessary. The Akita needs a lot of exercise. |
